The Independent Child Protection Unit (ICPU) is actively engaged in innovative and impactful initiatives aimed at strengthening child protection at every level — from grassroots communities to national systems. Our current focus areas reflect our commitment to collaboration, accountability, and capacity building.

A dynamic community-based initiative launched in the East Rand, the Foster Care Alliance brings together foster parents, social workers, child protection advocates, and community leaders to improve foster care support and placement stability. The project fosters collaboration, practical guidance, and peer support to ensure vulnerable children are placed in safe, nurturing homes with well-equipped caregivers.

This groundbreaking initiative offers compliance, mediation, and advisory services for funders, sponsors, and volunteers supporting child-focused organisations. FundWise helps ensure that donations and volunteer efforts are directed toward legally compliant, ethically sound, and financially transparent institutions. The platform assists in identifying risks, verifying legitimacy, and promoting responsible giving in a sector vulnerable to abuse, fraud, and exploitation.

ICPUDEMY is our soon-to-launch online training platform, designed to educate everyone — from professionals to laypersons — on all aspects of child protection. The platform will offer courses on child rights, child abuse awareness, trauma-informed care, safeguarding policies, legal obligations, and much more. Whether you're a teacher, nurse, social worker, community leader, or parent, ICPUDEMY will equip you with the knowledge and tools to protect and empower children.
