INTRODUCTION
The Independent Child Protection Unit (ICPU) is an independent child protection initiative committed to strengthening the systems, institutions and people responsible for protecting children.
We work across the child protection landscape, providing professional guidance, case reviews, medico-legal expertise, mediation, training and practical assistance to individuals, families, professionals and organisations navigating complex child protection matters.
Our work extends beyond individual cases. We seek to identify systemic shortcomings, promote accountability and contribute towards a child protection system that places the rights and best interests of children at its centre.

Child protection is not the responsibility of one profession or institution. It requires cooperation, knowledge, accountability and a willingness to address shortcomings wherever they occur.

Our work includes supporting families, empowering professionals, reviewing cases, examining institutional processes, interpreting medico-legal evidence and facilitating constructive solutions in child-related disputes.

What We Do
The ICPU offers a range of specialised services aimed at strengthening child protection, supporting those affected by system failures and empowering the professionals and organisations responsible for safeguarding children.
Our services are delivered directly or, where appropriate, through a network of experienced professionals and collaborators.

Guidance and assistance to parents, caregivers, schools, churches and organisations navigating child abuse matters, statutory processes, parental alienation, bullying and child protection concerns.
02. Independent Case Reviews & Institutional Accountability
Examination of cases where individuals believe that a child protection intervention, institution or professional process has failed.
Identification of possible procedural shortcomings, statutory non-compliance and systemic failures.
03. Medico-Legal & Forensic Services
Independent medico-legal report preparation, forensic evidence interpretation, review of medical documentation, expert opinions and expert witness services in matters involving child sexual abuse and relevant criminal proceedings.
