What Happens to Extra Goods?

Items that are not required directly by foster homes are:

  • Distributed to community members in need, especially where families are caring informally for vulnerable children; or

  • Sold in the charity shop, with all proceeds going toward specific, child-focused needs within the Foster Care Alliance.

This model ensures that every item donated plays a meaningful role — whether by going directly into a home or helping fund critical support services for fostered children.

Accountability

At the Foster Care Charity Shop and through all initiatives under the Foster Care Alliance, we are committed to transparency, integrity, and responsible stewardship of all donations and resources.

Every item donated, every rand raised, and every service provided is managed with the understanding that we are accountable to the community, the children we serve, and the donors who trust us.

🔎 We Ensure Accountability By:

  • Recording and tracking all donations received and distributed

  • Documenting how funds are used to support foster families and child-specific needs

  • Regular internal reviews to ensure ethical and legal compliance

  • Working closely with the Independent Child Protection Unit (ICPU) to monitor impact and identify gaps

  • Reporting back to donors and community stakeholders on how their support has made a difference

We believe that true care begins with trust, and trust is built through accountable actions and transparent processes.

Financial Donations to the ICPU

You can make a financial donation directly to the Independent Child Protection Unit (ICPU) to support its core operations or any of its specific child protection projects — including the Foster Care Alliance, FundWise Solutions, or ICPUDEMY.

Donors may choose to:

  • Contribute to the general work of the ICPU, supporting system-wide child protection interventions, emergency responses, and advocacy; or

  • Allocate funds to a specific project, such as foster care support, training development, compliance verification, or community outreach.

Use of funds for financial accountability

All financial contributions received by the ICPU will be:

  • Used strictly for the intended purpose specified by the donor

  • Managed in accordance with all applicable financial and tax regulations

  • Tracked and reported for full transparency and accountability

  • Audited regularly to ensure ethical, lawful, and child-centred stewardship

Whether you’re donating as an individual, business, trust, or foundation, your contribution will be handled with the highest integrity and oversight — ensuring that every rand makes a real, traceable impact in protecting South Africa’s children.
